by Sylv & Min
Dates: Feb - Jul 2023
Workshop Pass (6 months):
Pay If You Can $100
‘Somethings from Nothings’ is a fun, online workshop series for adults, no experience necessary. Designed for all creative human beings, be that in the garden, the kitchen or dancing in your lounge room, this relaxed and playful process will help you (re)discover the joy of simply creating.
Carve out some time from your regular routine to explore creative process through play, imagination, moving, scribbling and connecting with your own creativity. Following your own curiosity and using nothing but the tools and objects found readily around you, enjoy creating something from nothing.
As we move through the Kulin seasons across half a year, this carefully curated workshop series will be delivered monthly to your inbox. Content will introduce creative prompts, shared exercises and multi-sensory inspiration. Guided by collaborators and interdisciplinary artists, Sylv Meltzer (she/her) and Melinda Hetzel (she/her), set your expectations around whatever is a realistic time commitment for you. See what emerges from regular practice, without the pressure of an outcome.
You will need:
- pen / pencil (colours fun but optional)
- notebook / paper (a book can be great, but again optional)
- camera on your phone (optional)
- Zoom software / internet connection (optional)
Time: 8-9pm (AEDT / AEST)
(3rd Monday each month):
20 Feb, 20 Mar, 17 Apr, 15 May, 19 Jun, 17 Jul
(3rd Wednesday each month):
15 Feb, 15 Mar, 19 Apr, 17 May, 21 Jun, 19 Jul
The third Monday or Wednesday of every month, depending on your cohort selection, you are invited to join a relaxed and informal online session with other participants, for questions, reflections and to share in each other’s process. A link will be emailed to you with your monthly content one week prior to each online session.
If you want to participate in these online practice sharing sessions you will need to download Zoom, free video-conferencing software, to your computer, tablet or smart phone, before the first session. https://zoom.us

Who we are:
Sylvie Meltzer (she/her) and Melinda (Min) Hetzel (she/her) are interdisciplinary artists with a passion for collaboration. They spent much of the last couple of years facilitating online creative workshops and are finding it hard to kick the habit.
Sylvie Meltzer (she/her) is a workshop and teaching artist dedicated to storytelling. She has spent the past fifteen years collaborating with other humans to tell their stories. Sylvie is passionate about nurturing people to ‘get up and have a go’. She has become very adept at working with pretty much nothing, to make seriously something. Sylvie’s work ranges from the spectacle of thousands of students dancing, to the intimate spaces of homes, halls, sheds, tents, zoom windows and under the stars.
Sylv also loves glitter.
Melinda (Min) Hetzel (she/ her) is an interdisciplinary artist living and working as a guest on unceded Wurundjeri Country in Naarm (Melbourne). Her practice centres around collaboration and facilitating creative processes, and frequently involves family and friends. Melinda works across performance and installation. With artist-led collective, Melinda Hetzel & Co, she specialises in creating intimate arts experiences in public space. She is fascinated with how live arts, in combination with digital technologies, can affirm threads of interconnectedness between human beings and the rapidly changing world in which we live.
Min loves unfinished drawings, teapots and old boots.
